Language Arts Learning Activity - Ebook
This lesson is part of a 7th Grade Language Arts cross-curricular unit with 7th Grade Social Studies on Shakespearean Theater and The Renaissance.
Overview: In the Language Arts portion of the unit, students will learn about theater during the Elizabethan Era. They will explore Shakespeare's Globe Theater and read simplified versions of A Midsummer Night's Dream, Macbeth, and Twelfth Night. Using their pre-existing knowledge of plot structure (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, denouement) students will create an illustrated story book for one of these plays.

Writing 3.0 - Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences.
a. Engage and orient the reader by establishing a context and point of view and introducing a narrator and/or characters; organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally and logically.
b. Use narrative techniques, such as dialogue, pacing, and description, to develop experiences, events, and/or characters.
c. Use a variety of transition words, phrases, and clauses to convey sequence and signal shifts from one time frame or setting to another.
d. Use precise words and phrases, relevant descriptive details, and sensory language to capture the action and convey experiences and events.
e. Provide a conclusion that follows from and reflects on the narrated experiences or events.
Writing 4.0 - Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.
Writing 6.0 - Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing and link to and cite sources as well as to interact and collaborate with others, including linking to and citing sources.

4. Create a story map (plot mountain) for your chosen play. You may create it on paper following the pattern we learned in class, or use the interactive tool on ReadWriteThink. 5. Write a storybook version of your chosen play. Be sure to use your plot mountain. You may modernize the setting. You will publish your storybook as an ebook. Write 10 pages minimum and be sure to include an illustration on each page. Use Mixbook or another ebook creator to create your book. |
